Why Your Reddit Posts Are Removed Instantly (And How to Fix It)
"AutoMod is the digital bouncer of Reddit. It doesn't care if you're a VIP in the real world; if you're wearing sneakers instead of dress shoes, it will throw you out of the club before you enter the door."
You pour a cup of coffee. You draft an incredibly insightful essay about your industry directly into the Reddit text box. You add formatting, double-check your spelling, and finally click "Post".
A flash on the screen occurs. A bright red banner appears: "[removed]".
It happened in less than a second. A human didn't read it. A human didn't evaluate how hard you worked on it. You just hit the AutoModerator wall.
The 4 Hidden Walls You Just Crashed Into
If your removal was instantaneous—measured in milliseconds—you triggered one of these four absolute limits:
- The Karma/Age Filter (The Most Common): Every major subreddit secretly sets minimums to protect against spam rings. r/Startups might require 100 Comment Karma and a 30-day-old account. If you are under the threshold, your post is quietly trashed.
- The Prohibited Domain Matrix: AutoMod maintains lists of banned sites. Obviously this includes malicious sites, but it heavily includes standard marketing platforms. Substack, Medium, Notion pages, Carrd sites, and generic Linktrees are often globally banned.
- The 'Salesy' Regex Match: Have you used the words "Launch", "Discount", "Promo code", "Sign up here", or "My new startup"? AutoMod reads Regular Expressions (Regex). If you sound even remotely like a salesperson, the script triggers the removal.
- Account History Tagging: Certain subreddits ban you entirely if you have *ever* participated in "free karma" exchange groups.
How to Bypass AutoMod (Ethically)
You cannot fight AutoMod, but you can understand it.
- Stop Using Marketing Speak: Write like you are texting a highly intelligent colleague. Erase every exclamation mark. Remove the words "revolutionary", "game-changer", and "synergy".
- Farm Legitimate Karma First: Your account needs trust capital. Earn 500 organic comment karma before you ever attempt a standalone link post.
- Put the Link in the Comments: Many subreddits instantly ban text posts with hyperlinks in them. Instead, write an incredible narrative block of text. Wait 5 minutes. Then reply to your own post with a comment saying, "For those asking, the tool I built to do this is [Link]." AutoMod rarely scans the comment section with the same aggression.
